Questions & answers
Everything we get asked, answered plainly.
Ordering, roasting, grinding, shipping and what we believe. If your question isn’t here, write to us — a person reads every message.
The short version
Four things worth knowing up front.
Roasted to order
Nothing sits on a shelf waiting. Your bag is roasted after the order lands, which is why it ships in a few days rather than a few hours.
Four grinds, ground fresh
Whole Bean, Coarse, Standard or Espresso — chosen on the product page, ground the same day it ships.
12 oz to 12 lb
The same coffee whether you drink a cup a day or run an office pot. Bag size is a choice on every product.
A person replies
We are small. Questions about a roast, an order or a gift reach someone who actually roasts the coffee.
01
Ordering & your account
Placing an order, changing one, and what happens after you check out.
Do I need an account to order?
No. You can check out as a guest and never make one. An account is only there to save you typing — order history, saved addresses and one-click reorders.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Usually yes, if you catch us before the roast. Because we roast to order there is a real window between your order and the beans going in the drum — email us as soon as you can with your order number and what needs to change. Once a bag is roasted and packed we can’t un-roast it.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major cards plus the wallets below, handled by Shopify’s secure checkout. We never see or store your card details.
Can I buy this as a gift?
Please do — coffee is a good gift. Ship it straight to them by entering their address at checkout, and leave a note in the order comments if you’d like us to include a short message. If you’re unsure what they drink, Cowboy Blend in Whole Bean pleases almost everyone.
Do you sell wholesale or to churches and offices?
Yes. Our larger bag sizes run up to 12 lb, which covers most fellowship halls, offices and small cafés without a separate account. If you want recurring deliveries or a standing order, email us and we’ll sort something out directly.
02
Coffee, roasting & freshness
What’s in the bag, where it came from, and how long it stays good.
How we sourceHow fresh is the coffee when it arrives?
Days old, not months. We roast after your order comes in, so the bag on your counter was green coffee the week you bought it. Whole bean is at its best through the first month; ground coffee is best within a week or two of opening.
How should I store my coffee?
Sealed, at room temperature, out of direct light — the bag it came in is the right container. Not the fridge, where it picks up odours and moisture, and not the freezer unless you’re storing unopened bags long term.
Is your flavored coffee artificially sweetened?
No sugar and no sweetener — the sweetness you taste is aroma, not added sugar, so a flavored cup is as calorie-free as a black one. We flavor specialty-grade beans by hand after roasting, which means the coffee underneath still has to be good on its own.
Do you offer decaf?
Our current lineup is on the shop page — if you don’t see a decaf listed there, we don’t have one in stock at the moment. It’s worth asking, because what we roast shifts with what we can buy well.
Which roast should I start with?
If you take milk or drink a pot through the morning, start with Cowboy Blend — cocoa and caramel, easy to like. If you drink it black and want brightness, African Espresso. For iced coffee at home, Cold Brew Coffee in Coarse.
03
Shipping & returns
When it leaves, when it lands, and what we do if something is wrong.
When will my order ship?
Orders join the next roast rather than shipping from stock, so expect a couple of business days between checkout and a tracking email. It is a deliberate trade: a short wait for coffee that is genuinely fresh when it reaches you.
How much does shipping cost?
Rates are calculated at checkout from your address and the weight of the order — you’ll see the exact cost before you pay, with no handling fee added on top. Larger bags are usually better value per pound to ship than several small ones.
Do you ship outside the United States?
We currently sell and ship within the United States, in US dollars. Enter your address at checkout to see the options available to you — if your country isn’t offered, write to us and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can help.
My coffee arrived damaged or wrong
Then we fix it. Email us with your order number and a photo if the bag is damaged, and we’ll replace it or refund you — we don’t make people fight for that. Food safety means we can’t resell returned coffee, so there is usually no need to ship anything back.
What if I just don’t like it?
Tell us. Taste is personal and a roast that suits one person’s palate can miss another’s entirely — often it’s a grind or ratio issue we can help you solve in one email. If it isn’t, we’d rather point you to a blend you’ll actually enjoy than keep your money and lose you.
How do I track my order?
A tracking number is emailed the moment your bag leaves us — check your spam folder if the roast window has passed and nothing has arrived. If you have an account, every order and its tracking sits in your order history.
Do you ship to PO boxes or APO/FPO addresses?
Yes to both. Enter the address exactly as the postal service formats it and pick a postal option at checkout rather than a courier one. Military and territory addresses take longer in transit than the table above suggests, so order a little ahead if it’s a gift.
My tracking hasn’t moved, or the package is late
Tracking often sits still for a day after pickup, and that’s normal. If it hasn’t updated in two business days, or the carrier says delivered and nothing is there, email us with your order number — we’ll chase the carrier ourselves rather than send you to do it. Genuinely lost coffee gets replaced.
Will the coffee survive hot or freezing weather in transit?
It will. Roasted coffee is shelf-stable and travels in a sealed, valved bag, so a hot porch or a cold truck won’t spoil it the way it would fresh food. Bring it indoors when it lands, keep it sealed at room temperature, and it will taste the way it should.
Can one order go to several addresses?
Checkout takes one shipping address per order, so gifts going to different people need separate orders. If you’re sending to a long list — a team, a small group, a church staff — email us instead and we’ll handle it as one job rather than make you check out ten times.
Timeline
From order to doorstep
Roasting to order adds a step that stock coffee skips. Here is where the days actually go, counted in business days.
-
Step 01
Order lands
Same day
You get a confirmation email straight away and your bag joins the next roast list.
-
Step 02
Roasted & packed
1–2 business days
Green coffee goes in the drum, rests briefly, then is ground to your choice and sealed.
-
Step 03
In transit
2–5 business days
Tracking is emailed at pickup. Most orders land three to seven business days after checkout.
Delivery estimates
Shipping within the United States
| Destination | Roast & pack | In transit | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contiguous US — standard | 1–2 business days | 2–5 business days | Calculated at checkout |
| Contiguous US — expedited | 1–2 business days | 1–3 business days | Calculated at checkout |
| Alaska, Hawaii & US territories | 1–2 business days | 3–8 business days | Calculated at checkout |
| PO boxes & APO/FPO | 1–2 business days | 3–10 business days | Calculated at checkout |
Transit time is the carrier’s estimate and starts the day your order ships, not the day you order. Orders placed on a weekend or a holiday join the next weekday roast. Your exact rate appears at checkout once you enter an address — we don’t add a handling fee on top.
04
Grinding & brewing
The quick answers. The full recipes live in the brew guide.
Read the brew guideWhich grind should I order?
Your brewer decides. Coarse for French press and cold brew, Standard for drip machines and pour-over, Espresso for espresso machines and moka pots. If you own a grinder, order Whole Bean and grind per pot — it’s the single biggest jump in cup quality you can make.
How much coffee per cup?
Start at 1 gram of coffee to 16 grams of water — roughly 2 level tablespoons per 6 oz cup. Most weak coffee is simply under-dosed, not badly brewed.
Why does my coffee taste sour? Or bitter?
Sour and thin means under-extracted — grind finer or brew longer. Bitter and drying means over-extracted — grind coarser or brew shorter. Change one thing at a time and taste in between.
Do I need special equipment?
None. A drip machine and fresh coffee makes a better cup than expensive gear and stale beans. If you ever buy one thing, buy a kitchen scale; if you buy two, add a burr grinder.
05
Our faith
We get asked about the name and the verses. Honest answers, no pressure.
Read our storyWhy the verses on the bags?
Because this work isn’t separate from what we believe. Coffee is an ordinary good thing, and we think ordinary good things point somewhere. The verse is there as a gift, not a transaction — something to read while the kettle heats.
Do I have to be a Christian to buy your coffee?
Not at all, and we’re glad you’re here either way. Everyone gets the same coffee, the same care and the same answer to an email. If the verse on the bag isn’t for you, the coffee still is.
What does “La Café Biblia” mean?
Coffee and Scripture, side by side — the two things that start most of our mornings. The name is a plain description of what we do rather than a clever one.
Where does your giving go?
A share of what we make goes out through our church and toward the communities that grow our coffee. We’d rather give steadily and quietly than make a campaign of it, so you won’t see a percentage badge on the bag.
Still stuck?
Ask us anything about coffee.
Order questions, brewing trouble, or which roast suits someone you’re buying for — send it over. We answer in the order it arrives, in plain language.
